The on-going travel chaos caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland has delayed the launch of the world’s first Armani Hotel in Dubai.

Located in the world’s tallest tower Burj Khalifa, the Armani hotel was due to open today. But thanks to the travel disruption in Europe, the designer Giorgio Armani and several hundred VIP guests could not make it to Dubai on the expected arrival dates. The opening ceremony has now been scheduled for April 27.

Emaar released a statement earlier:

“Due to the unforeseen closure of European airspace and the subsequent cancellation of international flights, the much anticipated grand opening of Armani Hotel Dubai has been postponed from Wednesday 21st April to Tuesday 27th April 2010”.

The Armani hotel and Armani Residences will be located in the first 39 floors of the skyscraper with 160 guests rooms and suites and 144 residences. The Italian designer is responsible for the interiors and style of the hotel as well as the residences.

With the current travel restrictions showing signs of improvement, the launch may very go ahead this time.
