There has been plenty of media outcry and reports in international media about the recent arrest of tourists claimed to be engaging in intercourse on a public beach. Dubai is also taking strong measures to police the city to target and eradicate other so-called immoral behaviour. See CNN report below:


 
This is a dilemma indeed for the growing economic powerhouse. Just how does a city that is so essentially grounded with traditional religious values balance its image, laws and enforcement with the demands of a growing tourist economy? Dubai has every right to ensure its values are not breached and visitors ought to be mindful that they are in a country that has certain beliefs and traditions. But just how this equilibrium will be achieved in practical terms remains to be seen…for now, the tension prevails.
