Starting March 1st, 2008, motorists in the United Arab Emirates have yet another set of caveats to watch out for. Traffic violations and offences will now be penalized by a new Black Points system (called the Unified Federal Traffic Law). These new laws place heavy monetary fines as well as penalties aimed at driver licenses. Vehicles may also be impounded for serious crimes. Motorists may incur a maximum of 24 black points during a year, following which they may lose their license for 3 months…a second such offence would result in a 6 month confistication.
