Important Questions about moving to Dubai

I am about to move to Dubai and thinking about travelling a little beforehand…however, I am little worried because obviously I will need some savings to start off while looking for a job in Dubai.  However, I also think that once I start working in Dubai, there will be little time to travel.

Therefore I have the following questions:

  • On average, at least how much savings should one have when going to Dubai looking for a job? (I know it is impossible to give an exact answer, but just like to have some opinions from people who have done the same thing and their experiences as to savings needed to get by until they found a job
  • Is it worth it to start looking for a job in Dubai before I get there or is it best to start looking when I get to Dubai?
  • Assuming I do start looking beforehand, does the company usually pay for the flight to Dubai when I am invited for an interview?
  • Naturally, I would like to negotiate the best salary possible…is it better to accomplish this from abroad or from within Dubai?

  • I am in sales…business development…what are some of the highest paying companies and industries in Dubai within this field with the biggest total compensation packages?
  • What are some of the best free dating sites in Dubai and best place to meet girls?
  • Any other advice and suggestions about Dubai would be greatly appreciated.

A quick, detailed reply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

  1. 1 Dubai Expat

    Hello Marko,

Where are you travelling to Dubai from? And what sort of experience do you have?

The amount of savings you need would depend on how your lifestyle is, where / who you will be staying with while in Dubai and also how long it takes before you find a job.

Getting a good job is very much reliant on the demand in the sector you’re looking at - what industries have you worked with?

There are different schools of thought here but a lot of expats prefer coming over to Dubai and then networking & doing the job hunting on the ground - this enables them to meet with potential employers face to face. Since most expats are on ‘expat packages’ I dont think it would make a big difference if you got the job from home or here… but others may have had different experiences.

If the demand for your position is there and you are a great applicant, the company should usually be willing to fly you in.

Dubai has a very vibrant nightlife…from great restaurants to bars to other hang-outs - these would be the best places to meet new people in the beginning!

    Hope some of this helps!
