Movember – Changing the face of Mens Health

Targeting the ex-pat community for the first time in UAE, at the start of Movember, guys register at movember.com and select which prostate cancer foundation they want to support from either the Australian, American, Canadian, UK, or New Zealand Foundations. The Movember participants, known as Mo Bros, then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache while increasing awareness and raising money for critical research into prostate cancer.
While growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (ladies that support their guys or just love Mos!) form an important part of Movember with their powerful feminine touch, by recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds, and attending the highly anticipated MoTown Party.
Movember culminates at the end of the month at a MoTown Party held in Dubai. These glamorous and well groomed events will see Tom Selleck, Borat and David Boon look-a-likes battle it out for their chance to take home the prestigious “MoTown Man of Movember” title. But its not all fun and games, so why the extreme behaviour?
Prostate cancer is now the number 1 threat to men with almost the same number dying from this disease as women who die from breast cancer. Sadly there has never been an appropriate amount of attention or awareness about prostate cancer and Movember’s aim is to change all that! “The aim of Movember is to raise awareness about the greatest male health issue today by putting the ‘Mo’ back on the face of men worldwide and, in the process, raising funds for prostate cancer research,” says Adam Garone, co-founder of Movember. “Movember is a great way for men in the UAE to give a Mo a go, indulge in a little male bonding, have a good laugh, and do something positive for prostate cancer at the same time!”
Movember has been has been wildly successful in Australia over the past two years in raising awareness about male health issues and over 24 Million Dirham for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Beyondblue – the national depression initiative. In 2006 it was successfully launched in New Zealand raising 2,550,000 Dirham for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of NZ.
In 2007 Movember will expand beyond its origins in Australia and New Zealand, launching in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain and encouraging the global ex-pat community to get involved.
Separating the men from the boys and leaders from the pack, a Mo’ grown in November is now a proud sign of the UAE’s coolest new male health charity event, Movember. www.movember.com Facebook members can join the ‘Movember in UAE’ group to keep up to date on what’s happening.

The Movember UAE 2007 Launch Party will be held upstairs at Double Decker, Al Mujool Rotana Hotel Dubai on Wednesday November 7th, 2007 from 7pm. Happy hour drinks all night, great tunes and Movember giveaways. Come down and meet your fellow MoBro’s and MoSista’s.
