New MSN Virus / Worm going around - Backdoor.Win32.IRCBot.aex - File based N039_jpg.zip / loooooooooooool
Published by Dubai Expat September 27th, 2007 in Living, News, People, Uncategorized, Work.Hi everyone, there appears to be a new MSN Worm or Virus on the loose. I’ve been getting some wierd messages from trusted contacts since yesterday and decided to investigate a little. The messages are usually something like:
“loooooooooooool” or “looooook” or “He looks really funny in that photo” something similar, followed by the contact trying to send a file called “N039_jpg.zip” (names could vary). The propagation seems to work by people opening the file…which probably installs some code into the system registry and computer - the infected computer then starts sending these messages to others.
Recommend everyone not to accept any files, even from trusted contacts, if they look fishy or unsolicited. There is a good possibility that these files contain the “Backdoor.Win32.IRCBot.aex” worm – do not accept these files / pictures/ downloads and open them! Doesn’t seem to be too widespread yet, since there is not so much data online – a few forums have mentions though: Telecharger | Chinese Internet Security Response Team | MSE Forum

It is also spreading in Dutch… I got it. I guess it adapts to the language of the victim’s system. It’s saved as N039_jpg.zip, which contains the file http://www.N039_jpg-msn. I guess this worm is meant to overload the MSN Network…
