Expats living in Dubai may not find it surprising that Dubai is listed among the top 50 most expensive cities in the world…now the ranking stands at 34! About 80% of the population of the United Arab Emirates is comprised of expats and the city is in a frenzy of development, from malls to hotels to homes and entertainment venues. The rise in rents has been a particularly troubling issue for many…and living and infrastructure costs are also on the rise.

Arabian Business reports…Dubai has taken the 34th place among the 50 most expensive cities in the world for expatriates, according to a new survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The emirate - along with Abu Dhabi at number 45 - dropped in the ranking this year because of the UAE dirham’s peg to the US dollar, which has depreciated against other currencies. Last year, Dubai was the 25th most expensive city (source)
